MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has shrugged off the claim of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that the palace’s imposition of a preventive suspension against Overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Arthur Carandang is an impeachable offense.

It can be recalled Trillanes insisted that the ombudsman is an independent institution.

In response, Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque challenges the senator to file an impeachment complaint against the president.

Malacañang also insisted that the preventive suspension it filed against Carandang is constitutional and immediately executory, except when the Supreme Court releases a temporary restraining order against it.

“Go ahead, file impeachment, do it ASAP and we will see you in the House,” said Roque. – UNTV News & Rescue
